Germany is heading for Corona chaos! Experts concerned about pandemic situation – infection figures soon at record high?
In recent days, the number of infections caused by the coronavirus has continued to rise. As of Wednesday, 23,000 new cases had been reported. A significant increase from the previous day, when only 10,000 cases were recorded. Now, a statistician is looking ahead to the next four weeks… And comes thereby to a frightening result.
Corona numbers continue to rise nationwide
The seven-day incidence has now again risen significantly nationwide. As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Wednesday, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants has risen to 118. On Tuesday, the value had still been at 113 and last Wednesday even only at 80.4. In addition, the reported deaths are apparently rising again noticeably. On Wednesday, the RKI reported a total of 114 deaths from Covid-19, 22 more than a week ago. And the zerzeit most important value, the so-called hospitalization rate is currently at 3.07. The peak value in Germany had been reached shortly before Christmas 2020 with 15.5. The current figures show that the nationwide incidence has now risen for the 17th day in a row. For this reason, statistician Katharina Schüller has now made a forecast for the next 4 weeks. According to her forecast, the incidence value should rise to around 172 in one month. Thus, the values would then even be higher than in the previous year, when there was no vaccine against the coronavirus. At that time, an incidence value of 142 had been reported by the RKI on 27 November 2020. Theoretically, the value could even rise to 235 if, as happened last week, the R value should rise to 1.16. The highest incidence value reached in the course of the pandemic had been 198 and dates back to December 22, 2020.
Why infection numbers are rising sharply right now
According to experts, there are several reasons for the rise right now. This is because many researchers had predicted a fall wave of coronavirus. “The increasing and spreading feeling that the pandemic is already over, I find inappropriate,” warned therefore also the epidemiologist Ralf Reintjes of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. In part, a certain carelessness is probably also promoting the spread of the virus. This is the case, for example, in the district of Miesbach in Bavaria, where the highest incidence value in the whole of Germany is currently being reported. According to the authorities there, people are increasingly “…wantonly or out of carelessness no longer adhering to measures such as wearing a mask and keeping their distance”. Although this statement comes from a spokesman for the district of Miesbach, it also applies in other parts of the republic, where a relaxation of the AHA rules is increasingly being observed. In addition, an increase in numbers had been expected anyway due to the shift of activities indoors during the cold season. In addition, the end of the autumn holidays in the various federal states may also have had an influence on the increased figures.
