The officers were astonished when they ended up with 9436 packages on their seizure tables.
The luxury labels and swastikas on the cocaine blocks are said to be identifying marks of European criminal organizations to which the cocaine was intended to be delivered. More than 30 different logos were found.
“This operation was an unprecedented blow to one of the world’s most important criminal organizations involved in cocaine distribution, whose recipients were the leading criminal networks in Europe,” the Spanish Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The investigations into Operation “NANO” began in July. The investigators had come across a criminal organization that apparently smuggles drugs on a large scale from South America to Europe.
An evaluation of the shipments revealed that the organization shipped up to 40 containers per month from Machala (the main banana port in Ecuador) predominantly to the Spanish ports of Algeciras and Vigo. Customs set up a checkpoint – and struck gold!
